By the time you read this article we will already be 2 months in to the new season and all of our teams have been busy competing against teams from all over the county. The weather has been really kind to us, so far, and we have had some really nice mornings/afternoons down at the Sportsfield.
Our teams have been performing really well and here is the latest update:
U13s – Despite struggling with a smallish squad our most senior team have been doing well. They have played 3, won one and lost 2 in the highly competitive “A” league and are through to the next round of the Knockout Cup with a convincing 7-4 win, away to Brackley Athletic.
The U12s have also had a good start to the season, having played 4, won 2, drawn 1 & lost 1 and are 3rd in their league. They recently got knocked out of the Cup but they did come up against a highly competitive Banbury United team, who currently ply their trade near the top of the ‘A’ league.
The U11s are revelling in their first season of 11-a-side football in the “B” league. They are currently top of their league with a 100% record, having won their first 4 games and scoring 18 goals. A fantastic start by Tony Thomson’s team but they still have to play big teams from Hook Norton & Bicester, who have also started well.
The U10s are having a tough time at the moment but have just picked up their first point, away to Bampton and hopefully this will be a turning point for them. Manager, Trev Baxter, has been happy with the way they have been playing and they just need a little more luck. Current stats of P5, W0, D1, L4.
The U8s are playing friendly football matches this season but so far have had a great start. They have won 5 of their first 6 games with only a 1-0 defeat by Wychwood preventing a 100% record.
The U7s, managed by Carl McKno, have had an equally successful start to the season having played 5, won 4 & lost 1. Lewis has already scored 3 hat-tricks for them this season and looks like being their star striker. A big thank you goes to Owen Developments, on the Kingston Bagpuize Business Park , who have very kindly sponsored the kit and bought waterproof jackets for the team.
We have just formed a new U6 team, with the players that have progressed up from mini-kickers. Still in its early days but they will initially be managed by Manda Thompson, with Luke Peedell as Coach.
Mini-kickers –Coach Sal Hambidge now has a new crop of under 5 year olds to develop in our academy and these boys and girls are the future of our Club.
Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons are now taken up by football for our Colts families, but it is all good fun and gets the boys and girls exercising in the fresh air, which can’t be bad.
With winter just around the corner we are in the process of upgrading our floodlights. Nick Forster is doing a great job maintaining and upgrading the lights so many thanks to him. Some teams will start indoor training in the next month or so which enables them to carry on training even when the weather is bad.
There is usually a match at our Sportsfield on the Abingdon Road on Saturday mornings at 1030am and Sunday afternoons at 2pm, please feel welcome to come along and support your local youth teams.
